feral trade bamboo shoots
from Yuyao Zhejiang, China
笋干菜 salty dried bamboo shoots with vegetables from artist Boat Zhang's parents' former mountain village. Traditionally pressed in large containers by bare feet then weighted down with stones before drying outside on village street. The bag contains bamboo and xue cai, another vegetable particular to the location. Cooking suggestions: soup stock, dipping sauce, steam with fish, or cook between layers of meat, the shoots will soak up the fat & increase in flavour. ferally traded since: 05/08/15.

kate rich Met Boat along with Hong Kong feral trader Ming Lin, in london bakery, an intricate mix of multiple trajectories: Feral Trade changing trains in London, enroute back to Bristol from feral business workshop in Berlin, Boat stopping over in London from a 2 week artist residency with the Liverpool Biennial before her flight back to Shanghai and Ming taking 2 weeks pause in London from a ricochet travel schedule underway for already some months. After food and cash transaction, trader returned to Bristol by the first post peak hour train, the 19:12 from Paddington which despite being late sped to Bristol on a deluxe barely stopping route.

FERALTRADE products passed by hand. The word 'feral' describes a process that is deliberately wild, as in pigeon, as opposed to nature wild (wolf). Feral Trade freight operates largely outside commercial channels, using the surplus potential of social, cultural and data networks for the distribution of goods. contact kate@feraltrade.org
